C/2002 C1 (Ikeya-Zhang), May 1st

Two CCD-images of the comet taken about one hour apart, but with the same telescope pointing, note the movement and the differences in the tail structure. A movie (698 KB) of the comet's movement was taken between these two exposures.

  • Location: Niederleis, Lower Austria
  • Conditions: Visual limiting magnitude 5.0 mag, seeing ?, temperature 8.5C, slight wind, slight dew
  • Autoguider: Meade Pictor 216
  • Enhancement: Adobe Photoshop 6.0, by Howdii
  • Notes: Image enhancement consisted of contrast optimization with Photoshop "Levels" and "Curves", but no dark and no flat field processing, nor any filtering. The moon was up in the sky.
