The Northern Part of Cygnus

Cygnus North, 135mm

The Milky Way photograph includes parts of the constellations Cygnus, Lacerta and Cepheus. This is a region of many galactic clusters like M39, NGC 7209 and NGC 7243 and extended faint HII regions like the Sharpless objects 119 and 124. There is one exception, the Cocoon Nebula IC 5146, which is a small globular emission nebula, to the left of the image's center. The region includes also some dark nebula, which can be seen because they absorb the light of background stars. The most prominent of those is the dark lane extending from Cocoon Nebula toward the west.
